SolCol Sunday Discussion Group: Stand Up For Your Future University

Solidarity College was founded during the 2020 Old Schools Occupation, called in support of the ongoing struggle of UCU striking staff against a University Management that continues to restructure the University for profit and power at the expense of its staff and students. Here we planted some seeds for what we hoped would become a radical, non-hierarchical, liberatory space of mutual learning.

The reading and discussion groups which have flourished over lockdown and then summer since the occupation have been a step in this direction – but we want to take a moment to look ahead. What if we could turn the marketised, hierarchical structure of the university on its head? What if the sites of resistance which usually exist in the cracks between an otherwise oppressive university could become the foundation of the future university? What would your future university look like?

This is a discussion group for anyone interested in these questions! To help kick the discussion off: if people would like to they can bring a quote which they think gives a valuable perspective on these questions, that would be groovy!
